The Gallery - Colour
This week the theme for the gallery is Colour, for the first time in ages October has been sunny bright and hot! This isn't set to last tho the weather is set to turn before this weeks out.
October doesn't normally signal hot weather, but one thing that it does is brings wonderful colours
My favourite colour is Green, I love how the grass adds to photos

Parenting Classes for all?
Today I was at a Homestart meeting with a talk about a parenting course offered in our district ran by the local primary care trust, targeted at all parents. It was a really interesting session and really made me think.
On the leaflet we were given it states 'Society has huge expectations of parents, and yet at the same time undervalues the role of parenting; the pressures on parents to perform, to bring up perfect children and not to make mistakes are heavy and may induce guilt and anxiety.'
I'm sure every one of us can relate to that, there is bound to be a time for every single one of us when we have felt like the worst parents in the world as we muddle along trying hard to do our best, sometimes a bit of reassurance that our best is good enough, or give us a different way of dealing with things would be immensely helpful. So why then are these courses not overflowing with parents eager to partake in them?
There was one such course ran at my childrens school just as we moved into the area, it is a large school, with plenty of families yet there was a very poor turn up for the course. (admittedly I did not attend either)
Do we as parents set our self such high standards that we feel like we are admitting to failing by taking a helping hand like this? and how could we change the thought pattern if that is the case? I certainly don't feel like I wouldn't benefit from a course like this, so why didn't I attend? I'm not sure, maybe because I was new to the area, new to the school, and perhaps thought that by attending people would assume I was a useless parent, courses automatically hold that stigma to them, and that is a shame, because they truly would be beneficial to every parent, and certainly don't imply anything about your current parenting.
These courses are not there to tell you what you 'should' be doing, or give you rules in parenting to follow, they are not there to produce a flow of perfect parents (there isn't such a thing!), they are there instead to give self confidence to parents, to share tips and ideas with other parents, and encourage families to find different ways which suit them.
Not to mention the creche facilities whilst there, giving a much appreciated time out with other adults in the same boat.
The course covers things such as building self confidence, talking and listening to children, self esteem, stress and relaxation amongst other things. They are ran in a informal way and from this taster session today I will keep my eyes open for the next course in my local area, the Homestart become a volunteer preparation course was a very similar style course, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone.

We received Playmobil Agent Grip playset from Toys R us
Playmobil is always one of them 'ticks all the boxes' toys, and this great little set is no exception, it is perfect for a friends birthday present, or a stocking filler toy Priced at just £2.99 it really is a great value for money set.
In the box you get 1 figure and various accessories to turn him into a special agent, who can scale pretty much any flat surface.
Special Agent grip has two suction pads which attach to his hands to enable him to climb cupboards and radiators with ease as he goes about his special missions.
there are loads of playmobil sets, varying from price but the great thing about this little figure is that it doesn't need another set to be enjoyed.
We only have a couple of other playmobil figures, but Mikey was happy enough with just this one Special Agent figure.
He managed to attach all the pieces himself, (only needing help with the slip line) and has loved creating his own little adventures bringing in other figures and toys to get involved in the secret missions.

Chuggington Wooden Railway
We received the Chuggington Wooden Railway set to review in our 4th Toyology box
This Great wooden railway set is ideal for little hands, the track is sturdy and clips together really well, the Trains are nicely detailed and as they show the familiar characters from Chuggington TV series this really makes a lovely play set.
In the Over and Under set, you get 17 track pieces, two tunnels, which can also be stacked to make a clock tower, 2 Trains (Wilson and Koko) and Vee.
The Track can be clipped together in anyway your children like and as they get used to the set they can build up different railways for the trains to play on, there are other track sets available and you can further your collection by purchasing other Character Trains.
When we received this set Mikey was kean to get it out and have a play, although we aren't a big TV watching family so he is not specifically into Chuggington, however we also invited round the neighbours little boy to give this a test, and our niece and nephews. aged between 18 months and 5 years, all of which were eager to get this out of the box.
All the children could happily play with this set, although there are only 2 trains, the girls enjoyed building the set up and the boys happily played together pushing the trains over and under the clock tower.
The main downside to this set is that because the clock tower is 2 separate pieces when you build it up little hands tend to knock the top pieces off, Mikey who is 4 was able to play without knocking the tower down, however the younger boys found that every time they pushed the trains through the top section the tower came apart, so we found it better to have it as two separate tunnels.
This set is priced £39.99 from Toys R us now, and additional Trains can be purchased from £9.99
The detail and quality of this set is high, and will withstand many hours of play and is sure to be a big hit to any Chuggington fans and will appeal to a wide age range.
