World Book Day - Quick Home Made Costume

Today is World book day - you would have thought everyone who has any form of TV or internet or school aged child would be very aware of this, and thus have had an outfit planned for the past week or so.

However I love to leave things until the last minute - and I mean LAST minute, I knew it was book day of course my daughter has reminded me for weeks, but I just don't want to splash out on £20 costumes each, for one school day. So I had told the children they would be going in their school uniforms. But then of course this morning arrives and my youngest wakes up adamant he will not be going in his school uniform, I tried all the ordinary 'why not go as Harry and his bucket full of dinosaurs?' (ordinary clothes) options but he was not having any of it.

So I put the ball in his court and said 'well who DO you want to go dressed up as?' and he said The BFG. Now I should have known as we have just finished reading this book, initially my response was 'no... how can I make a homemade  BFG costume in less than 15 minutes which doesn't require sewing?

Then I thought about it and thought well actually it could be worse, so I ruffled through the draws and found a orange T shirt, a standard school white shirt and a pair of 3/4length karki trousers - perfect!

I simply cut the orange T shirt down the middle, and cut off the sleves to make it into a waistcoat - no sewing it neat - the BFG at the end of the day wears raggity clothes doesn't he? well he does in my mind! Put the shirt on and rolled up the arms, and grabbed a belt and hey presto we had a costume!

Mikey then decided he wanted to add the invisibility cape and so we found the old vampire cape from Halloween, armed with the book he looked almost like we'd planned it!

Jobs done and he ran into school happy - Now what am I to do with Chloe - her dress up day is tomorrow!!!

It's good to talk - TalkTalk phone boost options

Living in todays fast paced world where more and more things revolve around technology its very easy to forget  what matters, and its often easy to get caught up in life and go with the flow.

Yet I do wonder what damage having 24/7 Internet access has had on society, and if people do remember to sometimes stop and take a break from the surge of emails and text messages and social media notifications and have real life interactions with their family and friends.

Do people remember to pick up the phone and talk to people - real conversations where you can hear peoples emotions because sometimes I think real conversations have been lost in a endless stream of virtual text.

As amazing as the Internet is and technology,  it is sad to think that more people now turn to a facebook message or a text instead of a real phone call.

Price obviously is a factor in why people talk less, with so many mobile phone text bundles coming coupled with mobile phone contracts and free messaging service via social media accounts it makes it seem expensive to make a phone call from your landline.

I am much more likely to reach for my laptop to send a quick message to someone or fire off an email than pick up the house phone and I know that in the back of my mind cost is a factor.

Looking at all the different companies offering so many different price plans it can be confusing and hard to know which company offers the cheapest landline phone calls to mobiles and international numbers, so its no wonder people tend to stick with emails and text messages.

Yet it doesn't have to always be a text based message,  TalkTalk have some great mobile phone and international calling options to choose from, giving you a way to make phone calls to mobile phones and international numbers for a small set monthly fee.

TalkTalk have made it really simple to pick from a selection of boosts allowing you to decided how many free hours per month you think you will need and then you make the small monthly payment and don't have to worry about the cost of the calls.

As TalkTalk family bloggers we have been asked to try out the mobile phone boost options and see what savings we can make.

We are not huge phone users but do spend around £10 a month on mobile phone calls, these are calls to our friends and family and normally each call only lasts a few minutes, we make less than 100 minutes of calls a month, so we are set to make a good monthly saving by simply switching to the 100 minute mobile phone boost option and it will allow us to worry less about clocking up a bill whilst we catch up with friends.

If you are already a TalkTalk customer activating the mobile phone boosts is quick and simple from your account online, and can save you upto £50 on mobile phone calls.

To activate the mobile phone boosts Simply log into your TalkTalk account and then select 'Packages and Boosts' from the top menu and then 'Broadband and phone' from the drop down menu as shown above.

You will then be shown all the available boost options, from here you can simply tick the boost you require then click update to activate the boost on your phone line.

There are plenty of Phone boosts to choose from including 2 mobile phone boost options allowing you to make 100 minutes of mobile phone calls for just £3 per month or 1000 minutes for only £5

TalkTalk also provide anonymous caller reject, caller display and last call barring for free making it even easier to keep your home phone ready for the important calls you really do want to receive.

Ben10 Omnitrix A.I Review

We were sent the Ben10 Omnitrix AI to review from Bandai, which pleased Mikey no end.

ben10 omniverse new omnitrix toy

Ben10 is a popular animated series, which stars a 10 year old boy -Ben Tennyson, who has a watch-like alien device called the Omnitrix which enables Ben to transform into various different aliens each with their own powers.

ben10 2014 omniverse toy range
Ben10 has been popular for several years, and new for 2014 is the Omniverse series on Cartoon Network,  to match the new series is a brand new range of toys which includes new character figures and play sets.

The  Omnitrix AI  is also in the new release for 2014  The Omnitrix AI is the cheaper of the Omnitrix toys available, priced around £12.99 - £14.99 it is a great choice for young Ben10 fans.

ben10 omnitrix omniverse AI

The Omnitrix AI has light and sound features with a twist dial to select from the 10 alien characters from the show.

The recommended age is 4 and above, although I can see no reason why a younger child would not be able to enjoy this toy.

ben 10 omniverse wrist strap

The plastic wrist strap is quite chunky but does have plenty of adjustable fasteners, it fit Mikeys arm easily and could of equally fit an adults wrist.

The Omnitrix itself is also a chunky piece, coloured to match the design from the 2014  Omniverse show.

The Omnitrix centre can be slid off the strap  and has an on/off switch on the side, with a lift up flap which  reveals the twist dial where you can select the alien of your choice.

The aliens are displayed on a small screen and as you twist the dial a beep sound is played and a green light shines.

Once you have selected the alien character you can press the centre to hear another sound, this sound is the same no matter which alien is selected - which disappointed Mikey as he would have liked abit of variety here (however we have not actually watched the new series and as such I am not sure what sounds are played in the TV show)

Overall Mikey likes the Omnitrix AI and it does seem a sturdy toy which I am sure will last alot of rough play. For the price tag I think it is reasonable priced which I am sure would please any Ben10 fan, couple it with a white T shirt and green trousers and you have the perfect Ben10 dressing up outfit.

Valentines Day

yep, it's the 14th February - Valentines day

My Facebook news feed is inundated with pictures of chocolates and beautiful flowers and lovely little messages.

I'm not really one for Valentines day, I don't buy for my other half and I don't think he even knows what day it is! Normally we just sort of let it slip by without too much fuss.

But over the years Chloe has been more aware of it, and it seems somewhat more important than it used to be, I remember when I was young Valentines day was a none eventful day, I don't remember my mum or dad doing anything special and it certainly wasn't even thought about for anyone but couples to purchase people gifts, now however you hear of people buying gifts for their friends, children, pets even!

So when I was in the local shop yesterday surrounded by heart shaped chocolates and cute teddy bears I thought I might as well get in the spirit just a little.

This morning I made pancakes and melted little chocolate hearts on them, for the kids - just as a little token gesture to say 'I love you!'

Even amongst the hustle of the school morning routine, it made a nice way to start the day.

Wish I was there - Photo competition Entry

With January nearly over and the weather horrible, wet and cold I am longing for the start of Spring, and it seems like I am not the only one.

Al Fresco Holidays, who offer an amazing range of family focused holidays,  is also longing for the warmer weather too, and on their blog they are asking people to send in their favourite holiday photographs to be in with a chance to win a £300 holiday voucher or a lovely Nixon DSLR camera.

We didn't get a holiday last year, and so we didn't get to visit the seaside at all, something I missed, and I am certain I will make amends for this year.

In fact it has been a few years since we went to the sea, instead opting for a boat trip holiday around the UK's canals in 2012, which although stunningly beautiful,  just was not the same as a trip to the beach.

It is a beach holiday that I long for this year, the weather doesn't have to be hot, but to be beside the sea even during a summer storm is magical.

A simple family holiday together, escaping from all the stresses of everyday life, is what I am dreaming of.

With finances low, we have never had the opportunity to travel far, but it really doesn't matter where in the world you are when you are together.

Taking time away from all the electrical gadgets and distractions that come with living life, often spending far too much time wrapped up in the moment to appreciate the little things. The little things which are so very important.

A family holiday lets you take a breather, and relax and appreciate life for all its wonder.

Iam entering the Al Fresco -Wish I was there competition as I dream of holidays past - All the photos included in this blog post were taken at Shell Island - Wales in 2011,  A beautiful place by the sea, and that is where I wish that I could be.

The memories in these photos remind me to cherish family time instead of just letting the days slip by, and this summer thats exactly what I aim to do

If you have some summer holiday photos which hold memories making you wish you were back there then
enter them into the Al Fresco competition too - http://blog.alfresco-holidays.com/2014/01/15/wish-i-was-there-photo-competition/

I also doodled in black and white centered around the word LOVE with a couple of black birds chirping to each other, then on the love theme I drew some cute valentine images which you could print out to make a great personalised valentines message to the one you love.

Happy 2014 - yes, yes I know I'm late!

Well its a New Year! 2014

Wow where did the time go? I have been terribly bad at keeping on top of my blog the past few months so it's beginning to feel alittle lonely and unloved around here, so I thought I had best fix that and post.

Christmas was quiet here, we had a nice day, the children got a selection of gifts they had asked for, and all passed fairly peacefully, the holidays finished in a blink of the ye and now we are well and truly back into the swing of the school runs again and the mad rush trying to find extra hours in the day.

For Christmas I was lucky I got a wonderful Wacom intuos graphics tablet and I do love it, creativity at my fingertips. I am still getting to grips with it but I hope to be doodling all sorts of things in the coming months.

Blog wise I really do feel like I need a change over here, I love my blog and blogging in general has been such a massive part of my life for the past few years, I want to focus on my blog, but I just don't seem to have the motivation to find the time needed to be here.

My blog has a huge 'review' side and I am in two minds of what to do about the reviews at the minute, I do love reviewing items but I really want to focus my spare time on other things. I can't decided if saying no to reviews will simply mean the blog goes even quieter - or maybe it will make me get back to the things I love - photos, graphic design and daily life snippets.

Anyway I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and that 2014 is good to you all, and if you're feeling cold on this BlueMonday don't forget to....
