Whats going on?!

It's late, I'm tired and I really should be in bed, I have a busy day tomorrow, but tonight  I thought I'd wind down the evening and as I checked my emails before turning off the computer a news story caught my eye, as I  read one, then another then another a terrible trend was accruing, not only in the news stories but in the comments and replies to them.

The stories were somewhat ordinary and extraordinary at the same time, one about a mum who has brought a fake baby, or reborn doll, which she loves and cares for instead of having another child. The story itself doesn't really bother me in any particular way, each to their own, I have seen these reborn dolls they are amazing, but what is more shocking than the story of a mum wanting one and treating it like a real baby, is the barrage of comments that followed the story, it saddens me that people feel the need to loudly speak there minds and say such hurtful things, comments about this women and how she is damaging her daughter.. nasty things like 'Look at that face - it's taken centuries of inbreeding to reach that advanced stage of genetic homogeneity.'  surely its these sort of comments that will be the ones that are more damaging to this family than the fact the mum has a reborn doll!

Then there was a story about a Santa telling a 4 year old she was on the naughty list, again the story is not really that troublesome, yes the Santa was wrong and its a real shame the girl was left upset, but the comments again on the post about the girl being ugly and ginger and such like were far more shocking!

Then a story about a dad who was quizzed by the police for taking photos of his daughter eating ice cream, this time the story just shocked me!

the list of stories goes on, children being put into care for being overweight, mums justifying 'sexy' outfits for 3 year olds, councils removing play equipment due to health and safety fears, drunk drivers killed in terrible car crash with 7 year old son in the passanger seat! Shocking and scary and makes me wonder what sort of word we are now living in!

I must admit I normally tend to avoid all news issues on the most part, and I am some what naive and optimistic that infact people are nicer than perhaps they are, but are we really living in a time now when everyone has something bad to say about everyone else? and blimey what a scary place the Internet is and how awful the media can be,and this must have an overall effect on peoples day to day attitudes with such baffling behaviour, such nasty comments openly displayed it surely must be making people think its ok to bully each other, to say such hurtful things with little thought to the people we are talking about. I'm not saying I do or don't agree with any of these stories but I am certain I don't agree with the nasty comments, what ever happened to the age old rule of 'if you have nothing nice to say - say nothing at all!' There is no protection for the people in these news stories the media write their article and then leave them to be attacked by anyone and everyone who wants to through their two pence into the pot.

It is just showcasing some of the most vunrable people and holding them up on a pedestal and giving the rest of society an excuse to be nasty...  virtual bulling and this does lead to real bulling as well, I also read a story this morning about a man who had died of a heart attack after confronting thugs who had plagued him for over 30 years with bulling hate crimes, a sad sad story and a sorry state that our society allows this sort of thing to happen, we allow it online, we allow it off line its terrible and every ones actions have consequences and I think too many people forget that, why say such hurtful thing to others, no one leads a perfect lifestyle, its sad when people feel they have the power to judge everyone else, and it happens far to often. Disapproving glances, nasty remarks in the playground, always hurtful always judging.

Here is a very very moving video... think about it for a second every action every little word you say to someone today be in online or face to face can be the difference to making that person happy or not. yep, if you have nothing nice to say... say nothing at all!

Great Games this Christmas!

I love family games and we were sent some amazing ones this year to review

We loved Pass the Bomb which is a fast fun family game, it is a very simple idea and really works!
you get a plastic electronic bomb, which requires two AAA batteries to play, a 55 pack of cards which have beautiful pictures on, and an instruction leaflet, the box isn't over sized and the rules are easy.

great family game pass the bomb junior
Put 10 cards face down in the middle, the starting player turns one card over and presses a button under the bomb to start it ticking!

Then you pass the bomb around the players each taking a turn to say a word which associates to the picture on the card.

Watch out though, because the bomb will go off at any point and if your holding the bomb when it does you loose that round and keep the card, the winner is the player with the least cards at the end.
It really is a fun game which everyone can enjoy, the age rating is 5 + which I think is sensible, although my 4 year dose join in with us and enjoys the game.Much younger and they would not understand the word association as well.

This really is a great game and I would recommend it for anyone, its great for rainy day fun, to take on holidays for any moments of boredom, for Christmas and family gatherings... this game fits all!

Then there are the amazing Smart games which I really can't praise enough they are exceptional quality and all of them give hours of entertainment, the cannibal monsters is my eldest sons favourite, wheres as the north pole camouflage was a huge hit with my daughter and Dad and Grandad  couldn't put down Anti Virus!

Anti Virus is a IQ building game and like with all the smart games helps to develop logical thinking visual and spatial awareness as well as being addictive good fun for everyone in the family!

logic building game for all ages anti virus smartgame

The concept of Anti Virus is to move the red 'virus' out of the board  there are 60 challenges spanning over 5 levels, each level is shown in the leaflet guide.

the board is sturdy plastic as are the pieces, an at the end of the day you can neatly pack it away and keep all the pieces safe in a  zip up bag which is a great feature! all the smart games are priced at £14.99

Then there was the fun games that the younger family members can enjoy such as Red Rover and Smashed potatoes both have been a huge hit and amongst my youngest favourite things to do!

fun play dough smashed potatoe game for children

So if you're looking for that special game to help keep the family entertained over Christmas I would recommend any of these.

heres a video review of Pass the bomb:

don't laugh...

we've been lucky this year with receiving so many fab games and toys to review and I must admit out of all the toys we have been sent the board games have have been amongst my favourite, I love Pass the bomb, and playdohs smashed potatoess, the Smartgames certainly were well received and I can't tell you how amazing they are - you'll just have to pop along to your local Toys R us and be sure to pick some up to add to the Christmas pile!

But then there are some things which just aren't as good, I really love family games, ones where you can all gather around and have abit of fun together and I guess thats what the aim is to Don't Laugh.

Unfortunately tho this game just didn't seem to work for us, we have tried it several times and I am not sure if its because my children still don't 'get' jokes, or if its just simply not that great a game.

The simply concept is you tell each other jokes and try not to laugh, anyone who can't keep a straight face moves round the board.

You get a magic microphone to help you make your opponents laugh, which needs 3 x AAA batteries before you can play, once you have installed the batteries you can change your voice or make giggling sound effects and even farting sounds! however the microphone wasn't that impressive and although that did make my children laugh it wasn't all that great at changing their voice.

The whole concept of the game was lost because no one wanted to read or listen to the jokes and instead just passed the microphone around, so there fore its abit pricey for a toy microphone. (although it is currently on offer at Toys R us for £13.99 it normally retails around £19.99)

Maybe if you have older children who love to tell Jokes and understand jokes then they would love this game, it i good quality the board is sturdy and the microphone is nice, but for us unfortunately it just didn't make us laugh...

Secret Agents!

We also received the Secret Agent Car Playmobil set in our Toys R us toyologist Box.

This is a great set, which comes with one vehicle and one figure and a couple of accessories.

The car is really sturdy when built and the figures fit perfectly inside it. There are two missiles on the front which can be fired by activating the switches on the doors, and the car also has pop out wings under neath which you manually pull out to turn your secret agents car into a flying machine!

this set really does help to bring out the imagination in the boys play and if you have other playmobil figures then this will tie them in nicely together, but can equally be enjoyed as a one off toy.

The age rating on the box states for ages 7 to 12, but in my opinion there is no reason why a younger child could not enjoy this kit, once built the car and figures are perfect for the smaller children.

The car comes needed Assembly and my 9 year old managed to build it fine by himself

There is so much fun to be had with this set and as with all playmobil the quality is great and will be played with and last for many years.

Playmobil - great boys toys!

a few months ago we received the playmobil secret agent grip figure, he is a single figure, priced at around £3 and my boys love him, although they only have a very small amount of playmobil to join him in his adventures.

Then in our final Toyologist box for 2011 we were sent some more playmobil much to my boys delight.

This years range of Playmobil that is a huge hit is the secret agent range, and there is a whole host of playsets available in this range, including the amazing headquarters we received the Detection Jet which is priced £17.99

This kit is great you receive two playmobil figures, one is a good guy, with a simple smile face, complete with his helemt and gun. and the other is a bad guy, with his very own moon boots and jet pack.

Then you also get the detection Jet. as with all playmobil sets there is a bit of building to do prior to play, but this is what the older children enjoy about these kits, my 9 year old happily put together this set with no help from me.

The Jet needs 2 AAA batteries, these enable its metal detecting features to work, and it really does work!

The set comes with several rocks, and 2 metal bug like creatures, you can place the bugs into the rocks and then use the detection jet to locate them.

The metal detector works really well, it needs to be fairly close to the metal in order to pick it up just about a inch or two away but it can happily pick out which rock holds the metal bug, it also will beep when you fly over the radiator or any other metal surface.

This set states it is for the 7 - 12 year old age range, thats the only thing I would question about this kit, yes older children will beable to put it together and get enjoyment from that side of things, but there is no reason why this set can not be enjoyed by the younger end of the market, and in terms of playing with these toys the younger children will defiantly get the most from them. They really do help with role play, imagination and creativity in the young children, where as the older boys may not wish to play for as long with these toys.

The Gallery - My Awesome Photo

Tara over at Sticky fingers has got an amazing Gallery Prompt this week, and I simply can't wait to go and look through the linky to see every ones awesome photos, but which to pick for myself?

I'm abit late here and have only just seen this prompt so haven't had much time to think about which photo to choose, I have a few photos which I really truly love, ones which capture different moments, different times, I have several favourites from when Jake and Chloe were little, when they were growing up together and sharing all the fun times of their childhood, being only 18 months apart I loved them times when they were inquisitive together and so amazingly full of love for each other, but back then when they were toddlers my photography skills were not amazing, so on a photograph side of things none of my old photos really are all that awesome to anyone who doesn't feel the tremendous mothers pride when looking at them.

However the past couple of years I have took more photos and thought more about the picture when I take them, and have captured some lovely photos.

This one is definitely one of my favourite  but then like a famous quote ''which is my favourite photo? - The one I'll take tomorrow!''
